Gents: Today in class, we did the following:
- Reviewed the Rubric for your Grapes / Rhetorical Analysis research essay (PDF)
- (In A2) Finished Adiche's TED talk, connected it with Amy Tan.
- Reviewed DIDLS, an acronym for reviewing tone. We used the DIDLS handout (PDF) as a guide; we'll use it for the next two classes. We started by reviewing our types of Englishes; then we had a diction race in which we listed as many synonyms as we could for the terms listed. Then, we grouped them according to tone, and did some writing according to our different Englishes towards different audiences.
For homework:
- Please complete and print your research essays WITH A COPY OF THE RUBRIC.
- If you haven't already, please submit your $36 check by Friday (10/3).
