- Reviewed the Toulmin reading that you completed for homework, analyzing the parts of the model and its purpose.
- Analyzed some claims for assumptions, which we then discussed / challenged and considered the addition of qualifiers to make stronger statements.
- Analyzed a section of Schlosser's "In the Strawberry Fields" according to Toulmin, challenging his central assumption and developing a thesis statement.

- Crafting a Thesis Based on Toulmin Analysis (PDF). Please complete and print (or vice-versa) this document for next class; be sure to bring the reading that you're analyzing to class to write a brief in-class essay.
- Read Amy Tan's "Mother Tongue" in LoC (the first reading of the "Language" chapter) ... or the PDF version here.
