Today in class, y'all took a sample AP Multiple Choice quiz over paragraphs 12-14 in "Letter from Birmingham Jail." You'll have the opportunity to fix your errors and explain them during Monday's class.
Then, we engaged in a lovely seminar (My notes here), with Fritz sending some helpful emails and Eble providing an NPR interview about the letter on its 50th anniversary (see the notes for details). We ended with the question of whether or not King compromises throughout his letter, and if the letter is Rogerian in its entirety.
Homework: Complete your seminar reflection / evaluation on your blog; read through the style analysis of King's letter by Fulkerson (PDF), which will help you model your own style analysis of your columnist (due Wednesday, 12/18), which should include a discussion of your writer's style (duh), with examples from at least three of his / her articles that demonstrate 2-4 diction/syntax (I.E. stylistic) tendencies.
