On Thursday (A2) / Friday (B2), we did the following:
- Took a lovely quiz over MLK's Letter from Birmingham Jail (link)
- Completed a microscopic skills lesson over paragraph 14 of the letter.
- Split into groups to work on analyzing the letter for the following elements: pathos, ethos, logos, allusions, metaphors of light and dark, tone
- Revise your quarter 2 project writings; you should submit them in this order: Revised writing, first draft, one page (Times New Roman, size 12 double-spaced font (no name on the top!)) of explanation of your rhetorical strategies, changes in the writing process...all while referring to specific lines of your writing / specific parts of your visual.
- Binder clip your group's work together (I'll have these in class for you)
- You may also consider reviewing Fulkerson's essay on King (PDF) and his style in the letter.
- Your exam will consist of a persuasion essay and a rhetorical analysis section. You should read Sarah Vowell's "The Partly Cloudy Patriot" in preparation for the persuasion essay (see Language of Composition's politics chapter for the text).
- Rewrites of personal essays are due before break (noon on Friday, December 19th)
- Writing Center consultations (8 of 'em) are due by January 11)
- You may go to plays over break and submit extra credit by the day you return.
